Bilingual Secondary School - Upper Secondary (Grades 9–12)
Instead of the General English programme of previous years, which mainly focused on daily communication, students will now study English for Academic Purposes (EAP) according to their proficiency level, aligned with CEFR standards (A2–B2). EAP aims to develop essential academic and research-related skills such as reading and analysing academic texts, essay writing, giving presentations, participating in discussions, and taking lecture notes—preparing students for higher education in English both in Vietnam and abroad. In addition, Sedbergh’s EAP programme integrates IELTS and SAT preparation into the core curriculum (based on proficiency), targeting an IELTS 7.0+ or a minimum SAT score of 1250. This equips students with a competitive edge for university applications and scholarship opportunities.
In Grade 9, students will take Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics in English. This serves as a crucial foundation for developing the knowledge and analytical skills necessary to begin SAT preparation from Grade 10. Starting in the 2026–2027 academic year, the School plans to introduce three Advanced Placement (AP) Mathematics courses—AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, and AP Statistics—giving students more academic options and strengthening their competitiveness in international university applications. This also provides vital preparation for Grade 9 students’ long-term learning pathway. Alongside the EAP programme, students will take additional enhancement courses, including Chinese (preparing for the international HSK/HSKK proficiency exams) and Computer Science, equipping them with essential 21st-century knowledge and skills. These supplementary courses run parallel to the MOET curriculum and are designed to elevate students’ academic, linguistic, and technological competencies, supporting both domestic and international university admission pathways.
