NEW SCHOOL YEAR MESSAGE

Dear Parents, Students, and Teachers,

As we embark on the 2025–2026 academic year, we begin a new journey under the theme “Learning with Purpose – Leading with Impact.” This message is not only the guiding principle for all educational activities throughout the year but also the School’s commitment to creating a meaningful learning environment—one that inspires each student to unlock their potential, nurture a sense of responsibility, and spread positive influence within the community.

This year, our educational programme will focus on three key pillars:
AI (Artificial Intelligence) – Integrating advanced technology into teaching and learning to equip students not only with digital mastery but also with critical thinking, creativity, and adaptability in a rapidly changing world.
Sustainability (Education for Sustainable Development) – Building our school towards an Eco-School model, encouraging students to take action for the environment, strengthening their global citizenship awareness, and turning green ideas into practical projects.
Service Learning – Bridging knowledge with action, enabling students to gain a deeper understanding of human values, develop compassion, and practise leadership through meaningful community service activities that connect personal growth with social development.

With this direction, the School Leadership believes that every Sedbergh Vietnam student will not only learn for personal success but also learn to lead, to create, and to make a lasting positive impact on their community and the future.

We look forward to joining hands with parents and students in this meaningful academic year—a year of learning with purpose and leading with impact.

Programme Updates

1

Primary School

We are introducing a co-teaching model, in which each class will have an additional bilingual Vietnamese teacher working alongside the international teacher. This model not only enhances students’ learning effectiveness but also serves as a timely and approachable communication bridge between Sedbergh Vietnam and parents.

2

Monolingual Secondary School

From the 2025–2026 academic year, students in the Monolingual Programme at the Secondary level will follow the full Cambridge curriculum with 12 subjects. In addition to the core subjects, the school will introduce new subjects, including Humanities, Wellbeing (covering health and social-emotional management), and Modern Foreign Languages, broadening knowledge and fostering well-rounded development for students.

Within the Cambridge curriculum, Chinese is not offered as a standalone subject at the Secondary level. Instead, Cambridge schools worldwide typically choose languages of Latin origin such as Spanish, French, German, or Italian for the Modern Foreign Languages subject, as they share similarities with English in vocabulary, structure, and roots. Accordingly, the school has selected Spanish as the language of instruction for the aforementioned subject.

Learning Spanish not only enables students to expand their linguistic ability without having to adapt to a completely new writing system, but also indirectly strengthens their academic English foundation. This reduces initial challenges and allows students to focus on developing practical language and communication skills.

As the second most widely spoken language in the world, prevalent across Europe, Latin America, and North America, Spanish also provides students with a valuable advantage in future academic pursuits, career opportunities, and cross-cultural exchanges.

3

Mathematics, Science, and English will be taught using an integrated model that combines the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) curriculum with the Cambridge curriculum, with an emphasis on increasing instructional time in English. At the same time, the assessment framework is streamlined to avoid overlap, reduce exam stress, and focus on authentic competency-based evaluation. Academic results will be cross-recognised between the two curricula to ensure students’ full benefits.

Bilingual Secondary School - Lower Secondary (Grades 6–8)

4

Bilingual Secondary School - Upper Secondary (Grades 9–12)

From the 2025–2026 school year, students in the Bilingual Programme at Upper Secondary will transition from the General English programme to the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) programme. This programme is designed according to the CEFR framework (A2–B2) and differentiated by proficiency levels. EAP focuses on developing academic language skills such as reading, analyzing texts, essay writing, presenting, discussing, lecture note-taking, equipping students to pursue university studies in English both in Vietnam and abroad.

Notably, Sedbergh Vietnam’s EAP programme integrates IELTS and SAT preparation into the core curriculum, targeting IELTS 7.0+ or a minimum SAT score of 1250. This provides students with a competitive advantage in university and scholarship applications.

In Grade 9, students begin learning Mathematics in English through the Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics curriculum. This serves as an essential foundation for developing knowledge and critical thinking skills, preparing them for the SAT and Advanced Placement (AP) Mathematics courses (AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics) from Grade 10 onwards, while also strengthening their academic profiles for scholarships and international university admissions.

Alongside the Ministry of Education and Training curriculum, students also study Chinese and Computer Science as core subjects, equipping them with essential language and technological skills for the 21st century, while meeting university admission requirements both domestically and internationally.
- Chinese: The programme is designed based on the HSK/HSKK framework, with a focus on listening and speaking skills, while also building basic reading and writing abilities to support communication.
- Computer Science: Following the Cambridge IGCSE curriculum, the programme provides a solid foundation in computer science, including knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI), preparing students for future technology-related fields.
