LETTER OF APPEAL – JOIN FORCES FOR OUR BELOVED NORTHERN REGION

To implement the call issued on September 10, 2024, by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, appealing for support for those affected by Storm No. 3 (YAGI).

To execute the call dated September 10, 2024, from the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation, urging workers and trade unions at all levels to collaboratively extend their assistance to the communities in the northern region impacted by Storm No.3.

To carry out the directives of official letter No. 237/CĐN dated September 10, 2024, from the Vietnam Education Union, concerning providing care, encouragement, and support for schools in areas adversely affected by flooding and storms in 2024.

Dear Parents,

In recent days, people in Northern Vietnam, especially those in Lao Cai and Yen Bai provinces, have been struggling with severe and record-breaking floods and landslides. Prolonged heavy rains following Typhoon Yagi have caused water levels to rise, leading to widespread flooding and landslides. Thousands of homes, schools, and hospitals are now submerged. Entire villages, including one with 30 homes and over 100 residents, have been entirely engulfed by floodwaters and debris. Tragically, the collapse of a hillside onto the home of a young preschool teacher in Yen Bai has resulted in the heartbreaking loss of all four family members. The desperate cries for help and the harrowing images from these affected regions compel us to take action.

In the spirit of the Vietnamese proverb, “The intact leaves protect the tattered ones,” Sedbergh Vietnam, a member of the EQuest Education Group, calls on all families and parents to support those affected by natural disasters in Lao Cai, Yen Bai, and the Northern region. Your help and solidarity are greatly needed.

Each act of kindness and support offers crucial hope and strength to help the affected communities navigate their hardships. Furthermore, your invaluable contributions also support the dedicated rescue teams working relentlessly, day and night, to assist the locals during this critical period.

Target Beneficiaries:

– Residents of northern provinces adversely affected by Storm No. 3 in 2024 (as per the letter from the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City);

– Educators, staff, workers in the education sector, and students impacted by Storm No. 3 in 2024 (following official letter No. 237/CĐN dated September 10, 2024, from the Vietnam Education Union).
