The educational partnership between BCIS and Sedbergh School is a milestone and an important step forward in the journey of cultivating knowledge. If parents or students have any questions or concerns about this event, we would like to answer some of the concerns through the questions below.

Was the school purchased by Sedbergh School British?

Our school was not purchased by Sedbergh School (British), this is an INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS AND COLLABORATIONS. This partnership supports the ongoing work we are doing in ACADEMICS including curriculum development, quality of teaching, and school operations.

Utilizing the expertise and experience Sedbergh School brings to this relationship will open a world of new possibilities to our students in academics, experiential learning and pastoral care and give them access to all the additional programs, services and supports that Sedbergh offers its own students.

Why Sedbergh school? Why didn’t we collaborate with the other well-known schools in British?

Sedbergh School is one of the leading independent boarding schools in the UK with a long and distinguished history. Founded in 1525, Sedbergh School is known for its achievements in academic success, sports, music, and performing arts. The school has a strong international reputation and attracts students from over 50 countries. The school prepares outstanding young people for a successful future life. Graduates enter the best universities in the UK.

While it may not have the automatic name recognition of other British private schools, we know from our research that it is widely recognised for its achievements in studies, sports, music, and theatre which truly impressive academic results. See below:

Sedbergh students who have achieved A – A* (A-Level) grades ranged from 39% (2018), 23% (2019) and 36% (2020);
Sedbergh students who have achieved A – A* (GCSE): 44% (2018), 40.7% (2019) and 48.5% (2020)

Sedbergh School is proud of its academic achievements with the vast majority of students being accepted by their first-choice university. Each year, 95% of the school’s high school graduates are admitted to the ideal university of their first choice, and 75% of the students are admitted to the Russell University, which is known as the “Ivy League” in the UK, including top universities such as Cambridge University and Oxford University.

With this change, what will my child’s curriculum be like? What will be happened with my currently child’s curriculum?

Sedbergh Vietnam bilingual program is a combination of the Ministry of Education and Training Program and the International Cambridge Program.

With Sedbergh’s rich and long history and educational reputation, spanning nearly 500 years UK, the cooperation will bring benefits in terms of increasing annual professional development exchanges, improving learning quality for Vietnamese students, and opening up global learning opportunities for students. Sedbergh Vietnam students will be members of the global Sedbergh alumni network, having more opportunities for cultural exchange and study at the prestigious Sedbergh UK school and the elite of the education system. Great Britain has a long history of prestige.

The structure of the bilingual program remains unchanged, but students enjoy the quintessence of British education

What are the new tuition fees? Will there be an increase in costs?

We do not anticipate there will be any changes to our standard tuition package for next year however there are some additonal costs associated with delivery of the Cambridge program including textbook fees, entrance tests and Cambridge Checkpoint IGCSE and A Level examinations that parents will be required to pay.

What is the Cambridge program about? What is curriculum?

The current program for students from Primary to High School will not be replaced but will be supplemented with Cambridge standard subjects or specialized extracurricular/skill training subjects. for Sedbergh students (Math, Science, English, Music, Art, Sports, Pastoral Care, and Extra-Curricular Activities).

Students from grade 9 and above, will have 2 choices according to their learning ability and career orientation:
First orientation: Moet + Cambridge Global English Program leading to MoET graduation.
Second Orientation: Cambridge International English program with IGCSE leading to A-Level graduation.

With the application of the Cambridge program, Sedbergh Vietnam – BCIS’s students and new students will receive many academic benefits as well as the skills necessary to become a global citizen.

What will my child’s learning path be like when switching to the English curriculum?

The current International Primary Curriculum – IPC (International Primary Curriculum) and the International Middle Years Curriculum – IMYC (International Middle Years Curriculum) are built on a standard framework British National Curriculum. The Cambridge program is also based on the British National curriculum framework. We do not anticipate that student will face significant challenges when transitioning from their current program to the Cambridge Sedbergh program.

In Grades 1 to 8, the school arranges teaching assistants in class along with foreign teachers to support students in the development of English Language acquisiting. The school also provides supplementary English (EAL) program for students with identified ELL needs.

What is my child’s timetable ?

Still keeping 45 classes/week. Including

2 club periods
20 Cambridge periods with foreign teachers
20 to 21 periods is MOET’s program
2 Cambridge Math taught in English by Vietnamese teachers

What extracurricular activities and opportunities will be offered to students under the new curriculum?

Our extracurricular activities will continue to be diversified to foster each student’s individual interests, talents and skills. The Cambridge curriculum complements these activities, providing a comprehensive educational experience.

In addition the already diverse array of athletics, activities and service learning opportunities offered in our Clubs and Activities blocks, the Sedbergh Vietnam has plans to offer students at higher grade levels the opportunity to participate in the prestigious Duke of Edingburgh program, Outward Bounds Vietnam and Habitat for Humanity.
