The Wilson Run – The enduring journey of the Sedbergh spirit

The Wilson Run stands as a living testament to the core values of H.A.R.K. and the 500-year legacy of excellence in education at Sedbergh. More than a sporting event, it is a milestone in the journey of Sedbergh Vietnam.

Named after Bernard Wilson – the Housemaster of Sedgwick House at Sedbergh School – the Wilson Run laid the foundation for a race of great significance within the Sedbergh community. Originally called the ‘Ten Mile Cross Country,’ the race was later renamed the Wilson Run after its founder passed away, as a tribute to his immense contributions. Over the years, the event has continually left its mark with impressive records: 1 hour 7 minutes for the boys (2022) and 1 hour 24 minutes for the girls (2011).

Today, for the first time, the Wilson Run has been held at Sedbergh Vietnam, reaffirming that its legacy is not only being upheld but is also expanding, becoming a true symbol of resilience, determination, and shared pride across the community. This year’s event is especially meaningful as it commemorates the 500th anniversary of Sedbergh School in the UK. With over 1,300 participants, including students, parents, teachers, and staff, taking part across various race distances, the Wilson Run is more than just a competition—it is a celebration of unity and a source of pride for the Wolves House as we continue to honour this cherished tradition together.

WELCOMING SEDBERGH UK REPRESENTATIVES TO WILSON RUN 2025

The first-ever Wilson Run at Sedbergh Vietnam was made even more meaningful by the presence of representatives from Sedbergh UK. They came not only to witness and join the race but also to bring with them a legacy and spirit cherished through generations.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Hugh Blair shared the inspiring story of Bernard Wilson, the founder of the Wilson Run back in 1881. He emphasized that this is far more than a grueling cross-country race; it is a test of resilience, a journey of self-discovery, and a celebration of pushing one’s limits. Today, that same enduring spirit has been faithfully carried forward and brought to life by Sedberghians at Wilson Run 2025.

As the final steps crossed the finish line, Sedbergh Vietnam proudly came together to celebrate the outstanding individuals, the top Houses, and every stride that has etched a remarkable chapter into our community’s legacy.

Every distance covered, every challenge faced, was more than just a personal endeavor. It was a collective declaration of pride, unity, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. A special congratulations goes to Evans House in the Primary and Hart House in the Secondary for their stellar performance, fueled by unparalleled teamwork and an electrifying burst of energy.

More than a sporting event, it is a milestone in the journey of Sedbergh Vietnam. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who have shaped the Wilson Run from its origins and to all members who have supported and encouraged the Wolfpack’s remarkable strides in this special 2025 edition of the race.
