HONOURS TALK #3 WITH DURHAM UNIVERSITY – GLOBAL FINANCIAL THINKING THROUGH THE LENS OF WORLD-CLASS EDUCATION

At the Honours Talk themed “The Impact of Trade Tariffs on Global Financial Markets”, Sedbergh Vietnam students had the opportunity to step into the world of international finance with Professor Ian Whitfield, Deputy Head of Finance at Durham University Business School – one of the UK’s most prestigious business schools.

Through in-depth analyses and real-world case studies on trade tariffs and their ripple effects on global financial markets, Professor Ian offered students a new perspective: the global economy is not solely driven by numbers, but also by human behaviour, trust, and the complex interactions among nations.
A highlight of the session was the hands-on analysis of real financial data on the Bloomberg platform, which provided an engaging learning experience and helped students develop analytical thinking while understanding the connection between financial data, policy decisions, and human behaviour in today’s globalised world.

Honours Talk is part of the Honours Programme, giving students the opportunity to engage in conversations with students and alumni from leading universities worldwide, as well as experts across diverse fields. They also receive guidance on university applications and participate in learning experiences at prestigious institutions.
